How to Manually Eject a Disc From a PS5
Ever need to get a disc out of your PS5 but it won't eject? Whether it's because the power is out, your console is broken, or something is wrong with the disc or disc drive, sometimes you might need to manually eject a disc from your PS5 original, Slim, or Pro.
Luckily the process is pretty simple, pretty quick to do, and doesn't require a bunch of tools. You actually just need one tool: a Philips screwdriver (PH1, PH0, PH00) or a similar sized standard screwdriver (SL3 or similar).
PS5 Original Manual Eject Instructions
It's relatively easy to manually eject a disc from a PS5 original. Just follow the steps below and you'll have your disc out in no time. (And if you would like to see a video showing this process, check out our How To Remove a Stuck Disc from a PS5 original video on YouTube.)
- Turn off your console, unplug all cords from the console, and lay it flat on a surface you can safely work on.
- Orient the console so that the side with the PlayStation logo is facing down and the side with the disc drive slot is facing up and the drive slot is facing towards you (as shown below).
- Lift up on the top left corner with your right hand and push the cover to the right with your left hand. It can be helpful to give the cover a firm (but not too firm) hit with your had on the left edge. Once it is loose, slide the cover off to the left.
- On the right side is the disc drive and you will see a small hole in the top of it. Sometimes the hole is covered with a sticker which you will need to carefully remove to reveal the hole.
- Put your screwdriver down into the hole and then slowly turn it clockwise.
- Keep turning until your disc comes out of the slot.
If you disc still doesn't come out, that might indicate that there is a problem inside your disc drive. You'll need to take the drive apart to figure out what the problem is.
PS5 Slim and Pro Manual Eject Instructions
Manually removing a disc from a PS5 Slim or Pro is very similar to the process outlined above, but somewhat different because the consoles are different. However, the process is exactly the same for both Slim and Pro consoles since they have the same disc drive.
If you would like to see a video showing this process, check out our YouTube video on how to manually remove a disc from a PS5 Pro or Slim.
- Turn off your console, unplug all cords from the console, and lay it flat on a surface you can safely work on.
- Orient the console so that the side with the PlayStation logo is facing down and the side with the disc drive slot is facing up. The drive slot should be facing away from you (as shown below).
- Lift up firmly on the top right corner of the larger cover to loosen it, followed by the top left corner of the same cover. This will pop the cover free from the console. Once that is loose you can lift the cover the rest of the way off.
- On the left side is the disc drive and you will see a small hole in the top of it.
